Proton Therapy
This is the last line of defence for Mia and her tumour.
Although Canada has world class health care one of the few things that are not available in Canada is Proton Therapy.
Due to the location of Mia’s tumour and the fact that it has attached itself to her brainstem almost all forms of traditional cancer/tumour treatments would be hazardous to Mia’s health. The amount of radiation that current Canadian treatments would beam into and around her tumour would leave her, at best, paralyzed and at worst death would occur. The area around her tumour, the brainstem, is so unbelievably sensitive that the risks involved have left us with few if any options. The difference between what we have available in Canada Vs elsewhere can be explained like this. Imagine killing a mosquito with a shotgun blast or a BB gun. The shotgun blast leaves damage to surrounding area (brainstem) while the BB while still deadly to the mosquito if a miss happens the damaging effects are less debilitating. Miss with the shotgun and well….. I think you get it.
